Giro d'Europa


The Giro d'Europa is a 5 day event featuring the fantastic real roads of the RGT Cycling Platform. Each day will take us to a new location as we showcase these fantastic routes. Each event can be raced as a one-off or you can test yourself on repeated days and challenge for the general classification. The rider with the lowest total time across the five events will be crowned the overall winner. This is an individual competition, encourage your team mates to race, but it will be everyone for themselves.
The races will be mass start and open to all, the nature of the courses means the groups will quickly form, find a group you are comfortable with and work together to keep the speed high or go for individual glory and try to drop the pack. The choice is yours. There will be three timeslots per day - 6am, 12noon and 7pm (BST) we hope this will allow as many people to enter as possible. You are welcome to race each day more than once, your best time will be taken. We encourage riders to sign up to eBio Passport a community effort in fair play to help ensure transparency around riders equipment and abilities. All races will be ranked events.
Partnering with ZMS Live Stream we will be broadcasting every 7pm BST race on Facebook and Youtube. We encourage you to tune in, follow the excellent commentary and look for yourself on the big screen. Don't forget to share the links with friends and families too and give them a wave! A prize draw will take place at the end of each stage, with some fantastic prizes on offer. The winner will be announced on the broadcast.

THE RACES

We start our tour on the island of Mallorca on the iconic road from Puerto Pollenca to the Cap Formentor lighthouse. This rolling route provides opportunities to rest but do not think this is a sight seeing trip. The first day of the Giro d’Europa event is bound to see some ferocious racing as riders look to make an early mark on the general classification as well as going for stage honours. Will you shine brightly or will you crash against the rocks?

Following our warm up on the training routes of Mallorca we move to the Flemish heartlands for the second day. Follow in the tracks of one day legends as we take on two ascents of both the Paterberg and Oude Kwaremont. Have you recovered after yesterday’s exploits or will you roar up the climbs like the lion of Flanders?

After two days of punchy climbs the participants will be pleased to hear that stage 3 has no climbing at all! However, 25 laps of this twisty crit course won’t give the riders any relief as the pack ebbs and flows through the tight turns and sweeping bends. With so many riders packed into the 1km course it will be chaotic but perhaps you’ll be the brave soul to take advantage and launch an audacious attack, slipping away into the mayhem?

After yesterday’s respite we are back into the rolling hills, on the strade bianchi outside the walled city of Pienza. This penultimate stage will be a test of stamina and legs that are becoming weary. The scenery is stunning but keep an eye on the terrain and don’t lose that wheel in front. The two climbs up to the start/finish line will define this race but will you go all in for stage glory or hold something back for final day?

Just one more tough race separates you from completing this series. We head to the far north of England and head off road as we take on this gravel route. It might only be 17km but this undulating route will sap the energy from already weary legs. Dig deep for the final kilometres, it will soon be finished and then you can enjoy the remainder of your Friday evening with a well earned refreshing drink and look back with satisfaction on a fantastic week of racing.
